He is the eldest son of Reigenin Chojun Otani. Since the 24th caretaker, Sennyo
passed away,he took over the head post of Otani sect and became the 25th
caretaker while he was studying politics & economics at Waseda University
in 1993.He endeavored to participate in missionary work as the chief priest of
Otani sect.As his hobby, he is interested in rock music and played a bass
guitar in a band at the university. In the religious aspect, he is interested
in not only Shin Buddhism but all range of religion by attending various kinds
of meetings. Since he thought he couldn't continue to propagate Buddhism under
the control of the sect, he seceded from the Otani sect with his father,
Chojun, and younger brother, Saneshige, and he transferred Jiki (the base of
the temple) to Higashiyama Kamikazan, Kyoto. After breaking away,he changed his
name to Kohrin, and Buddhist name to Rakunyo.He is now actively engaging in
missionary work and is a focus of the world's attention as a young hope
representing the religion of future generations.
